Providence is calling a Mammography Technologist (1.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital in Hood River , OR.

We are seeking a Mammography Technologist - Mammography that will perform mammography examinations according to physicians' orders, utilizing a variety of sophisticated mammography equipment, taking into account individual patient's special or age-related needs. Utilize knowledge and judgment in regard to imaging factors, imaging technique, and patient treatment needed to produce optimal images.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
IMAGING SKILLS: Provide quality images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of all equipment:
Position patients appropriately and consistently obtain high quality, diagnostic mammography images by performing basic and specialty views as indicated by the patient's anatomy, needs and as ordered by the physician
Competently operate mammography equipment, determine and set imaging factors utilizing all relevant factors to ensure accurate and quality images with minimal and acceptable repeat rates
Alway provide for safe mammographic operations by adhering to radiation protection standards
Use lead shielding in accordance with policy
Understand and use appropriate x-ray techniques to provide high quality imaging while keeping exposure to patient and operator as low as possible
Present images and related pertinent patient information to physician for diagnosis
Assist physicians with invasive procedures as required
Assist in performing regular ACR/MQSA testing, informing Lead/Coordinator/Manager of need for intervention or repair
Stock examination rooms with supplies
Notify appropriate personnel for reordering needs
DOCUMENTATION: Gather complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service to all customers:
Routinely prepare examinations for interpretation to include: correct identification and processing of images, adequate clinical history, proper charging and data entry functions and appropriate previous images needed for comparison
Review patients charts and orders to ensure correct examination
Label images completely with demographic, position and other needed documentation
Complete all pertinent documentation including charge sheets, history forms, worksheets and any other necessary paperwork
Assist in performing ACR quality control, records results and reports variance from normal equipment function
PATIENT CARE: Provide for patient care and safety using professional judgment in accordance with policies and procedures:
Identify patient by checking patient's full name and medical record number according to department procedure
Thoroughly explain the procedure about to be performed in order to facilitate cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety
Show concern for patient comfort while obtaining the desired images as ordered by a physician
Provide respect for patient modesty and see that patients are properly clothed and covered during the examination
Maintain awareness of patient status and take appropriate actions to meet their needs
Communicate and use knowledge of related anatomy and physiology to ensure appropriate and effective care to adult and geriatric patients
Always provide for safe operations by adhering to appropriate radiation protection guidelines
PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR/INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Practice professional communications, appearance, conduct, punctuality, attendance and attitude that reinforces physician, patient and co-worker respect and confidence:
Maintain appropriate certification and professional expertise through continuing education
Maintain Professional Portfolio as required by HR policy
Assume responsibility for mandatory inservice education on an annual basis
Assist in the department orientation program with new hire technologists and regularly assume responsibility for student clinical education
Demonstrate a willingness and ability to assist others, assist in clerical and transportation duties when necessary
Always use time to the best advantage of the department
Use professional judgment and present a professional image of competency to customers and staff
Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with written policies and procedures
Manage stressful situations in a manner that promote positive outcomes
PERFORMS OTHER SUCH DUTIES AS REQUESTED:
Communicate pertinent clinical information to patients and/or family member only with the direct instruction from a physician (e.g. radiologist)
Regularly attend required meetings
Actively participate to accomplish positive goals and objectives of the department
Respond and demonstrate flexibility to changes in the work schedule as determined by the staffing and patient load
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Education to meet certification, license -OR- registration requirement
Current certification by the American Registry Radiologic Technology (ARRT)
Current ARRT certification in Mammography upon hire, or within six (6) months of employment
Current Oregon Licensure as an Registered Technologist, Radiography (RTR)
Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Computer skills and knowledge of keyboard functionality
Completion of pledge to Image Gently/Image Wisely within one (1) month of hire
Adherence to appropriate professional credentialing practice standards
Expert knowledge of anatomy and physiology, imaging principles and practices, as well as the ability to obtain high-quality images
