Providence Health & Services Nursing House Supervisor in Hood River, Oregon

Description:

Providence is calling a Nursing House Supervisor (0.9 FTE, Nights) to Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital in Hood River, OR.

We are seeking a Nursing House Supervisor to hold responsibility for the management of the hospital during those hours when the nursing unit managers, other department managers and administration are not in house. He/she is in charge of the general operation of the hospital. Demonstrates a wide range of general nursing and unit specific skills, including application of the nursing process. Provides leadership for the daily operations of the nursing units. Leads and develops staff by role modeling professional practice and effective management skills. Provides input into and helps achieve unit goals.

In this position, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • LEADERSHIP:

  • Mentor staff and promotes the professional practice of staff.

  • Share clinical knowledge and expertise with staff.

  • Monitor staff compliance with standard of care, hospital and nursing policies and procedures to ensure safe scope of care.

  • Handle conflict resolution with positive outcomes and coach/support staff to do likewise. Involve staff in decision-making processes.

  • Identify own professional growth and development needs and acts appropriately.

  • Provide/facilitate coordination of multidisciplinary care planning and care activities.

  • Comply with hospital RN standards when providing direct patient care.

  • Complete assignments /projects in a timely manner and requests assistance as necessary.

  • HUMAN RESOURCES:

  • Participate in the acquisition, retention, and disciplinary action of personnel as needed.

  • Follow hospital policy, collective bargaining agreements, and federal/state regulations in employment and disciplinary practice.

  • Encourage staff’s participation in department and hospital committee/activities/professional opportunities.

  • Direct staff to perform to a level of clinical competence as required by their job responsibilities.

  • COMMUNICATION:

  • Serve as a communication liaison between staff and nursing/hospital administration.

  • Use proactive problems solving involving health care team members in delivering quality care.

  • Keep health care team members informed of changes affecting their delivery of care as needed.

  • Communicate with patient and families, addressing their concerns/issues in a timely manner.

  • Assist in maintaining an environment conducive to attainment of job satisfaction for Staff members.

  • Establish and promote collegial relationships with members of the health care team, services, administration, and ancillary departments.

  • BUDGET AND STANDARDS :

  • Follow the staffing plan for nursing departments and utilize resources appropriately with daily staffing.

  • Give input and regularly review departmental policies, procedures and standards of practice consistent with hospital philosophy/mission as well as licensing and regulatory agencies.

  • Monitor standards of practice and policies/procedures for the hospital.

  • Interpret policy for staff as need.

  • Supervise staff member's clinical practice to provide competent care for department's population.

  • QUALITY IMPROVEMENT:

  • Support Quality Improvement Process as a method for evaluating the quality of care.

  • Provide feedback to staff on quality improvement issues.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement.

  • Current Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

  • Current Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

  • Current Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).

  • Demonstrated clinical competence.

  • Knowledge of currently accepted nursing practice.

  • Ability to make independent decisions.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 5 years staff nurse experience.
